It was the perfect storm of dog stinkiness . . . a handy man was replacing some broken tiles in my one bathroom, making it unusable for a couple of days, and my apricot Poodle, Jasmine, decided to take a nap on her urine soaked puppy pad because, well, she's classy.
Jasmine is also a world class cuddler. She's a cuddling pro. Someone should pay her for cuddling. But who wants to cuddle with a Poodle that smells like a Shell station bathroom? No one.
Enter Wahl's new product, the Wahl Waterless No-Rinse Shampoo. I received a bottle of this stuff in a goody bag at a recent dog event. I'm skeptical of products like this, which make grand claims like, "Coconut Lime Verbena fragrance is designed to give your pet a clean, fresh smell without bathing." Really? No bathing?
To avoid the water park debacle that washing Jasmine in the kitchen sink would pose, I decided to give Wahl's Waterless No-Rinse Shampoo a try.
The bottle is filled with a liquid that pumps out of the top in a foam, like one of those fancy soap dispensers in a nice restaurant. First impression -- it smells great. I pumped a few handfuls and rubbed the foam into Jasmine's coat, really not expecting much more than a coconut lime verbena and urine scented Poodle afterwards.
I moistened her fur pretty well with the foam, then rubbed her thoroughly with a dry towel. It took me all of two minutes. And guess what? Perfect smelling Poodle, ready for a cuddle! After she dried, of course, which took about fifteen minutes.
I don't know how this product works (magic, perhaps?), but it didn't just cover the smell -- it eliminated it. Urine is a tough smell to reduce, much less eliminate. Jasmine smelled perfect. Of course, I immediately used it on my other two dogs, Pearl and Zoey so that no one would be jealous of Jazzy's new awesome scent (and the massive cuddles she was receiving).
The product also contains oatmeal extract, which is great for sensitive skin. It's all natural, and is made in the USA, a big selling point for me.
I'm very chemically sensitive. I don't use perfume or chemical air fresheners, and I use unscented deodorant and laundry soap. I am immediately turned off by a strong chemical scent and get a headache when exposed to strong odors, but the Wahl Waterless No-Rinse Shampoo has a light, pleasant scent and didn't bother me at all. In fact, the scent puts me in mind of an expensive, Zen-like spa experience.
I'm giving this product a huge paw's up and will be using it again with all three of my dogs. Hey, maybe I'll try it on my own hair. I won't mind smelling like my dogs if they smell like this. Coconut Lime Verbena, here I come!
