The Lucky Dog Cuisine/Pet Postcard Project's December 2010 Spokesdog is . . .

The Pet Postcard Project's Lucky Dog Cuisine Spokesdog for the month of December, 2010, is Bella, the beautiful Miniature Schnauzer! She is campaigning for people to send in their pet postcards for Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana!

“Bella and her brother, Scooter, were adopted in November 2008. Bella loves to watch fish swim in the aquarium, hunt for lizards in the back yard, play with Scooter, and play with her big “Elmo” stuffed toy. She also enjoys belly rubs and curling up in laps. Bella chose the Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana because volunteer Ms. Linda is responsible for finding her and Scooter their furever home."

The goal for this campaign is 200 cards! Easy! Because it's the holiday time, Lucky Dog Cuisine is DOUBLING their usual donation in December to $2000 of all natural, human grade, nothing artificial ever dog food. It comes in a monthly subscription in a neat little cooler with dry ice. My dogs LOVE this food! The hungry, homeless doggies at Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana will get 200 lbs of this great food -- that's 1 pound for every card you send in!

Also, every card you send is eligible for cool monthly awards -- look on the right side of this page -- including a month's supply of Lucky Dog Cuisine! Finally, for every 10 new subscriptions of Lucky Dog Cuisine that come in because someone heard about them from The Pet Postcard Project, they will donate an additional 10 lbs of their great food every month to homeless doggies. Team i Love Dogs is campaigning for all of September and October to raise 1000 pounds of Rachel Ray Nutrish dog food for The Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation and Sabbath Memorial Dog Rescue. They only need 500 cards to make this happen! Please send in your postcards with a note saying "i love dogs" on it to add your cards to their tally. Thank you!

Shelby is a 3-year-old lab/pit bull mix who loves tummy rubs, road trips, digging holes at the beach, peanut butter, chasing squirrels, and, well, tummy rubs. She picked her family in 2008 after being adopted and re-surrendered to a shelter. She is very excited to support the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation, which helps get doggies like her out of high-kill shelters and into loving homes so they can get lots of tummy rubs, too.

 

Diesel is a 7-month-old pit bull/GSD mix who is the silliest dog in the world. He loves balls, snuggles, chasing his 5-year-old human brother around the house, eating crickets, and gnawing on everything he can get his mouth on. His family found him at 3 months old in the quarantine ward of a shelter, where he was being hidden to avoid euthanasia. Now that he knows what a real home is like, he can’t wait to help raise food for LBWF rescue dogs so they can find homes, too.

 

Irie Belle (aka “I Rebel”) is a 1-year-old, bilingual Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix adopted from the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter. She’s itty-bitty but has some mighty legs. She’s a tough terrier packed into a compact Chihuahuense body. Irie’s a Jackahuahua and a Xena-like force of nature when she runs. Besides passing the time chomping on her stuffed rat Nimh, she loves to bug her mami and papi. She’ll then snuggle up to show them she really does actually care about them, even if they are humans.

 

Cody is a 4-year old Pomeranian, who came to me at 1-1/2 years old. He's on a continual socialization program, getting better slowly but surely. Cody is a happy, toy-obsessed little play monster, who slowly warms up to people....especially if they play tug with his favorite toy!

 

Spencer is a 10-year-old British Shorthair who loves treats, catnip toys and patrolling the house to make sure everything is OK. He’s a regal and dignified kitty who also has small mischievous streak—he enjoys singing opera at 4 a.m. and chewing plastic, despite his parents’ objections. In honor of his British heritage, he was named Spencer after Princess Diana (maiden name: Lady Diana Spencer) and he likes the idea of carrying on the Princess’s generosity and charity work by helping homeless animals.

 

Roscoe, sometimes just Coe to his friends, comes right off the Southern California streets. He was a scrappy, rough-and-tumble kitten who needed a loving home. He went through a couple places within just a few days before finding his forever family, where he’s been ever since. Now 10 years old, he’s grown into a 23-pound dude who often hears “That’s the biggest cat I’ve ever seen!” when he’s introduced to people. He likes his mom and his “brother” Spencer OK, but is really attached to his dad. He’s excited to help animals like him get a second (or third) chance.

 

Leroy Brown from the Carson Pound was adopted in October 2007. This "Terribull" snorts like a pig when he's happy, which is most of the time. He loves his gal pawl Ella and his chew toys (a little too much). Check out Leroy's blogs on WWW.TJ.LA! (link to http://www.tj.la/author/leroy/)

 

Ella Mae Brown was adopted from the Downey shelter in March. The 8-month-old pup adores her buddy Leroy and torments him relentlessly (but he loves it). The rest of the time she loves chomping on chew toys, chasing squirrels, snuggling and giving sweet puppy kisses.

 

In the months of September and October, 2010, Freekibble.com, in conjunction with Halo Purely for Pets, has generously pledged 25,000 meals of Halo Spot's Stew to four animal shelters through The Pet Postcard Project! That's roughly 6250 pounds of pet food -- more than 3 TONS and over $15,000 worth of food!

For this 2-month campaign, the postcard goal is 4000 cards. There are four teams of Spokesdogs and Spokescats, each spearheading the campaign to earn Halo's Spot's Stew for a different shelter. 

Each team has 2 months to bring in 1000 cards, and the team who brings in the most cards at the end of October, 2010, will get an additional 5000 meals for their shelter. Thank you Freekibble.com and Halo!

Annabelle the Great Pyrenees is The Pet Postcard Project Spokesdog for August 2010!

Annabelle was a stray dog but now she has a loving home. Since she knows what it's like to be homeless, she wants to help the dogs at Stickney's Toy Breed Rescue & Retirement Sanctuary. 

 A note from Annabelle: "I chose Stickney's Toy Breed Rescue & Retirement Sanctuary because Mary Stickney takes in retired puppy mill breeding dogs, dogs from shelters and really any dog who needs help.  You can see from my face that I have had some injuries, and although I am lovely, my face isn’t perfect. Many of the dogs Stickney's get in are like that, too. They have had a ruff life and haven’t been well cared for, so they aren’t always what people might call pretty. But, Mary Stickney loves them, gives them the vet care they need and accepts them just how they are.  Then she gives them the best life they have ever had, gives them good food and finds good homes for them.  If she can't find a good home, then they get to stay with Mary. Times have been tough at Stickney's lately and I know they could use the food. Thank you for giving me this unique opportunity & job and for letting me choose Stickney's."

The Spokesdog for June/July is Dingles the Min Pin!

Please welcome Dingles as a Spokesdog for The Pet Postcard Project! His goal is to bring in 300 cards in the months of June and July - he's a little dog so I gave him a little extra time. When those cards come in, 500 pounds of Rachael Ray Nutrish will go to his shelter of choice, the Union County Humane Society! Here's what Dingles had to say about why he chose that particular shelter: 

"Union County Humane Society is a 'no kill' shelter that started back in 1913. They have successfully placed 85%-90% of the animals in their care. They have great programs such as the 'Heel 2 Heal' program in which they take the dogs over the Central Ohio Youth Center. The residents and staff work with the dogs for 12 weeks with basic training. They also have Ruff Reading in which the kids read to the dogs at the library or in the cat area. This not only helps animals become socialized but also encourages literacy in children. They are constantly organizing successful fundraising events to help their animals and to hopefully build a new shelter in 2012. UCHS has a wonderful, freindly and committed staff. We are proud to be a part of helping make the lives of the animals at UCHS better by feeding them, one postcard at a time."

The awards will still be given monthly, even though the card goal is going to be combined between June and July, so send in your cards each month to be eligible to will a ton of great stuff! 

Tip: Use your own dog's photos (or your friend's dog, neighbors's dog, etc.) on your cards rather than cutting them out of magazines. 

Tip 2: Remember, the words on the cards aren't "captions." They are actual confessions (dogfessions or catfessions), excuses, wishes, advice (dogvice or catvice), or a sentiment starting with "You know you love your dog/cat when . . . "

The Pet Postcard Project Spokesdog for May 2010

The Spokesdog for May 2010 is Yoda, a 13 year old Chihuahua who is happy to be earning 500 pounds of Rachael Ray Nutrish dog food for his chosen charity, The Gateway Humane Society. The Gateway Humane Society is a "no kill" animal shelter located in Pennsylvania. Yoda has many friends and family that were adopted out of The Gateway Humane Society and he wants to help all the critters that are still there waiting to find their forever home.

 

Yoda needs to bring in at least 200 cards in the month of May in order to earn the food, so please send in your cards today! This is a modest goal for a Jedi like Yoda. Last year a Chihuahua spokesdog brought in over 2600 cards in one month. Yoda only needs 200!

 

ANNOUNCEMENT: BRAND NEW "FOOD RAISER" CAMPAIGN!

Rachael Ray Nutrish has pledged - get this - 64,000 pounds of dog food to shelter dogs in March, 2010, if we can get 500 cards in during March! That's 32 TONS of food, folks! This is in addition to the current campaign, which is nearly complete (cards will count toward both campaigns). That's 128 pounds of food PER CARD in March!

The food will go to both Sabbath Memorial Dog Rescue in Miami, Florida, and the spcaLA in Los Angeles, California. Please tell everyone you know and make a bunch of cards so that we can make this special event happen! Thank you Nutrish!

SPOKESDOG FOR THE CAMPAIGN

Harpur's Giddy Upp "Gigi" an 8 year old rat terrier is happy to be earning Rachael Ray Nutrish Dog food for her chosen charity, the SPCAla. The SPCAla is an independent organization with no national network affiliations, yet they are able to help the Los Angeles community whenever disaster strikes. As a former pound puppy herself, Gigi wants to do what she can for the critters that currently find sanctuary at the SPCAla and is thrilled to be able to earn food for each of the dogs at the 4 locations the SPCAla serves. Gigi has a personal connection with the SPCAla, having taken agility classes at their Long Beach location and training in other classes with their trainers.
